The love Ralph and Cindy have for each other is unmistakable.
Their eyes sparkle and the deep respect and appreciation they have for each other is palpable. It’s a true love story, filled adventure, and ups and downs.
“We had some rough years,” recalls Ralph. “I remember thinking that personally I wasn’t doing very well and the more Cindy tried to reach me, the more I shut down. I moved in with my brother, and remember leaving and seeing my son, Levi, in the window and it just broke my heart.”
In the beginning, Cindy says she used weapons, such as, “you won’t see the kids” out of anger and hurt.
“I felt so alone and hopeless,” she says. “I questioned: Why did this happen to us? We’re a Christian family. I began to cry and I began to pray and God began to show me: Yes. This about our marriage and our children, but it’s even more than that. It’s about fighting for our grandchildren. And I realized the weapon was love.”
Knowing the message was from God, Cindy regained the will to fight for her marriage again.
“I began to see Ralph not as my husband but as a fellow Christian who was lost,” she says. “I was the one person on Earth who loved him enough that God could use to bring Ralph back to Him.”
Ralph remembers getting a phone call from Cindy and was expecting to be met with confrontation, but instead Cindy was filled with love and grace.
“I saw Jesus,” he says. “The way Cindy was responding to me was beyond anyone’s character. When you see someone care about you authentically for your wellbeing, that’s pretty hard to reject. I knew I had to start working on this.”
Today, Ralph and Cindy are proud grandparents. They are also the site pastors at MyVictory Lethbridge, helping others meet Jesus and begin a relationship with Him.
“Looking back now it’s hard to think, what if we didn’t make it,” says Ralph. “I know that everything we went through, God’s hand was on us. It wasn’t just about us, it was about future generations to come.”
