Cody & Carrie’s Story

Sometimes the road we travel together in marriage can be very difficult.

When Cody and Carrie describe their first few years as husband and wife they use words such as, “a gong show,” “hell,” and “extremely good or extremely bad.”

One particular dark night, forever etched in the couple’s memories, became a turning point in their lives.

“The next day Cody came back for some of his stuff and we ended up talking and he ended up staying,” says Carrie. “We were determined to make our marriage work. In the meantime, we continued to go to Victory and luckily for us there was a marriage series at just the right time. Hearing what Pastor Kelly had to say had a big impact on us.”

One poignant point that hit home for Cody was on how men treat women.

“Pastor Kelly said that if you lay your hands on a woman and she comes and talks to him, he’s going to tell her to leave her husband,” says Cody. “That changed my whole view of my relationship.”

The couple took the lessons they learned in the series to heart and applied them to their relationship. As they grew closer to Jesus, they grew closer to each other.

“Christ has made all difference in our marriage,” says Carrie. “He’s given us the tools to work together and for it to be ok for us to be who we are individually, which makes us a stronger couple. Jesus has brought out the best in both of us, which gives the other person the person they deserve.”

With Jesus, Carrie and Cody are travelling the road ahead together.

“I’m proud of who Cody is becoming and I’m proud to stand beside him through this whole journey.”
